Yu Ooka
Born in Osaka, Japan.
In 2005, after studying at Koyo Conservatory in Kobe, Yu decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue his career.
Yu played at many LA local live clubs where he was introduced to legendary Jazz pianist, Billy Mitchell and has been playing in the Billy Mitchell Group at many festivals over 15 years.
In 2016, his first album, "Vegas Drive" was released and his songs were played on radio in the US, Japan and Europe.
Yu is a leader of “Contemporary style of Japanese Folk Music” group, “Minyo Station“.
They arrange Japanese traditional songs with different eastern arrangement.(Rock, R&B, Jazz, & Latin etc).

This Unique Fusion group became popular and performed intensively in LA, Las Vegas and Atlanta.
Yu is also known as “Shamisen player”, who has been serving for traditional Japanese music and culture.(shamisen is a 3 string Japanese guitar.)
His teacher, “Sato Matsutoyo” is known as “the best Japanese folk singer and shamisen player” in Japan and her performance credits are in many movies including “Karate Kid 2”.
Yu’s appearance was Blue Note in Osaka, Sedona Jazz on the Rock, the Music Center of Los Angeles, John Ford Amphitheatre, Los Angeles County Museum of Art(LACMA), Asian Heritage Jazz Festival, MADCatfish Blues Festival, Levitt Pavillion, Nisei Week Coronation Ball, Nisei Week Closing Ceremony etc…
Besides performances, he attends many recording sessions.

大阪京橋出身のロサンゼルス在住ギタリスト&三味線奏者
中学生の頃、山崎まさよしを聞き、ギターを始める。
ビートルズやブルース音楽、洋楽ロックを聞き高校生活を終える。
神戸の音楽学校“甲陽音楽学院”では、土野裕、和田清茂、佐藤忠行等に師事。卒業後、ロサンゼルスに渡り、数ヶ月ハリウッドのMusicians Instituteにて、Allen Hinds, Jinshi Ozaki等に師事。
その後、ジャズピアノの巨匠”ビリー・ミッチェル”のバンドに加入し、ジャズクラブ、フェスティバル、レコーディング等の演奏を多数こなすようになる。
演奏スタイルとしては、ビリー・ミッチェルや、ジャズレジェンドシンガー”バーバラ・モリソン”等との共演ではストレートアヘッドジャズ、ブルース、ファンク音楽を、
グラミー受賞モータウンシンガーのテルマ・ヒューストンやスプリームズ等のアーティストとは、モータウンサウンド、それ以外では、スムースジャズ、ロック、R&Bととても幅広いく、15年以上に及ぶアメリカ生活の中で、音楽はハートで演奏するものだと学び、幾度となくアメリカ人の観客を熱狂させてきている。
2013年９月にはピアニスト“パトリース ルーシェン”とのライブ演奏が全米ジャズラジオ88.1にて約２時間に渡り放送され好評を得る。
また、2008年に結成した、民謡とジャズのコラボレーションバンド“Minyo Station”のリーダーでもあり、日系コミュニティーを中心にサンフランシスコ、ロサンゼルス、ラスべガスを中心に活動。2012年２月には1stアルバム“Cultural Twist”をリリース。
2011年には、ロサンゼルス日系コミュニティー最大のイベント“二世ウィーク”のクロージングお盆では、30年ぶりに 生演奏を復活させ、話題となる。
一方では民謡三味線奏者としては、映画”Karate Kid 2″でも知られる“佐藤松豊”氏に師事、名取“佐藤松豊遊”を襲名している。
2016年には、初のリーダーアルバム”Vegas Drive”を”Yu”名義で発表。
アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、日本のラジオ局から好評を得ている。
2017年夏、大岡遊グループ with バーバラ・モリソンにて、日本ツアーを行い、関西、関東合計５箇所ソールドアウトにて成功を収める。
また、2011年まではロサンゼルスの某音楽学校にてディレクター兼講師を務たり、コンテンポラリーミュージック以外にも、LAの私立／公立学校等で地元アメリカ人の子供達に民謡を教えたり、と講師としても定評がある。
映画、ラジオやCM音楽（山本山等）、ABCテレビドラマの挿入歌や音楽製作にも携わるなど様々な活動を展開している。
現在は、ロサンゼルスを中心に、アメリカだけではなく、カナダやアジア等にも演奏の場を広げている。
